For 53 years, our city has been unfortunate enough to not win a NBA Championship title. Our people have constantly been left hopeful of change and we needed a leader to get us there. We live in a city full of stars and leaders yet no leader has unified us and brought us joy (except our mayor). That was until a leader emerged from the depths of the Garden. A leader who fought vigorously and immensely for his team, for his city, and to bring honor to his father. A leader who brought other leaders in efforts to bring about democracy and change for the people. A leader who took it upon himself to take on the slender beast from the distant land of France and sent him back with 45. And although many doubted him, he proved himself to his people and to this city. That leader is none other than Jalen Brunson. 

In honor of this, we the people must show our gratitude. We must build a statue in his honor as this is something that changed the lives of every New Yorker. Our pride, our joy, and our spirit have all changed in this series. As New Yorkers, we live our lives constantly working and hustling and had nothing to celebrate and feel prideful about in our city. But for a short period of time we experienced joy, compassion, and companionship. A simple saying, “Knicks in 5”, changed the emotions between NYPD, FDNY, DSNY and fans; people of different backgrounds; and united strangers in celebration. The least we can do is honor Jalen Brunson with a statue outside of MSG.
