The Issue

Goshen, NY urgently needs a designated skatepark for our youth to safely ride their skateboards, scooters, rollerblades, and other non-motorized recreational equipment. We are an underserved area.                        Skateparks offer a community-wide benefit, appealing to public safety.
Skateboarding, scootering, rollerblading and biking are more than just hobbies. They are thriving sports that promote physical activity, creativity, and community engagement.
Goshen currently lacks a designated space for these activities, leaving young athletes with no choice but to skate in parking lots, sidewalks, and other unsafe areas. This not only puts them at risk but also leads to unintended property damage, creating concerns for local
businesses and taxpayers. A professionally designed skatepark would provide a safe, controlled environment where skaters
can practice without endangering themselves or others. It would also:
• Reduce Liability & Property Damage – Without a skatepark, businesses and municipalities bear the cost of unintended damage to vehicles, curbs, and public property. A designated space alleviates this burden.
• Increase Public Safety – According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, over 176,500 skateboard-related injuries are treated in U.S. emergency rooms each year. Most of these accidents happen in unsafe, makeshift skate spots. For example, recently a car parked at a busy
municipal facility in Goshen was damaged by a passing skateboarder who suffered bruised ribs in the accident. Had the vehicle been in motion, this could have been much worse! To his credit, even while in pain, the young man sought out the vehicle owner to apologize and pay for the
damage! He represents the masses of responsible youth in our community who deserve our respect.
• Support Local Economy & Tourism – Skateparks attract visitors, encourage local spending, and even provide potential revenue through events, competitions, and youth programs. Recreational tourism is on the rise nationwide.
• Provide a Positive Youth Outlet – A skatepark offers a healthy, constructive alternative to screen time and loitering. It builds discipline, social skills, and a sense of community.
Investing in a skatepark is a win-win. It protects our youth, community property, enhances Goshen’s recreational offerings, Orange County Tourism, and promotes Economic Development.
Our goal is to ensure safety and peace for all. Let's protect our youth and the property of our community members. Stand with us in advocating for a skate park in Goshen that benefits everyone. Sign and share this petition to make it happen!
