Governor Dankwambo of Gombe State, a state in North Eastern Nigeria, shut down boarding Government Secondary Schools in our area: Dukku, Nafada, Malala, since April 2014 under the pretext of insecurity. This has denied children in the area opportunity to attend school for 5 years now. The schools have dilapidated beyond repairs (see pictures). Even the famous Chibok, Dapshi, and FGC Bunu Yadi schools that are located in areas where Boko Haram Terrorists operated, kidnapped and killed school children have resumed and are operational since 2017.
It is a criminal offense to deny fundamental right to education for children in these two Local Governments. The funds for running these schools are unaccounted for by the Governor. By denying children from our area educational opportunities, Dankwambo has deliberately knowing fully the importance of education, undermined our progress and development as a people. He has ruined the future of more than 3000 children. The Petitioners demand:
1. That the schools be reconstructed, and upgraded to world class standards with teachers to compensate the communities and support educational development in the areas.
2. That the money allocated for running these schools in the last five years be accounted for and used in supporting education in the areas affected.
3. That foreign governments and international agencies condemn these kind of Government officials because of the danger they pose to our world, and use their leverage and powers to act on such individuals
4. The Federal Government has announced a program to prosecute parents who refused to enroll their children in schools, we demand investigation and prosecution of the Governor to show the seriousness of the program and to serve as a deterrence to those who deliberately undermine education development in our country.
