Petition to Boycott SUNY Stony Brook University and Demand Leadership Resignations
The Issue
We, the undersigned, unite in calling for a boycott of SUNY Stony Brook University and the immediate resignation of President Maurie McInnis, VP of Student Affairs Rick Gatteau, and Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Judith Browne Clarke. Our demand for boycott arises from the unjust detention, abuse, and arrest of students exercising their First Amendment right to protest against the atrocities in Palestine.
The University leadership's failure to protect student rights and safety is evident in the recent events where 38 students have been arrested. Rather than fostering an environment where students can engage in peaceful protest, the leadership has allowed for the intimidation and abuse of students by enabling police presence on campus to suppress dissent.
We refuse to support an institution that prioritizes silencing voices over upholding fundamental rights and values. Therefore, we urge all stakeholders to refrain from donating any funds, attending university events, or participating in any activities affiliated with SUNY Stony Brook University until meaningful change occurs.
Furthermore, we call for the reinstatement of all students suspended for participating in the protests. Their right to peacefully express their beliefs should not result in punitive measures by the university administration.
In addition to the boycott, we demand the immediate resignation of President Maurie McInnis, VP Rick Gatteau, and Director Judith Browne Clarke. Their failure to uphold the principles of freedom of speech, student welfare, and accountability is unacceptable and undermines the integrity of our institution.
Join us in solidarity as we demand justice for the detained students, accountability from university leadership, and a commitment to upholding the values of democracy, free expression, and human rights. Sign this petition to boycott SUNY Stony Brook University and demand the resignations of those responsible for the disregard of student rights and safety, as well as the reinstatement of suspended students.
