The Issue

To: The Prime Minister of Malaysia, the Minister of Health, Members of Parliament, and all relevant government agencies.

We, the undersigned, respectfully urge the Government of Malaysia to implement a nationwide ban on the manufacture, import, sale, distribution, advertising, and use of vape products.

Our request is based on the following concerns:

1. Protecting Children and Youth

Vape products are increasingly used by teenagers and young adults. Attractive flavours, colourful packaging, and easy accessibility have contributed to rising nicotine addiction among young Malaysians.

2. Safeguarding Public Health

Scientific evidence has shown that vaping is not risk-free. It has been associated with nicotine dependence, lung injury, cardiovascular risks, and exposure to harmful chemicals. Healthcare costs related to vaping-related illnesses continue to place additional strain on the healthcare system.

3. Preventing Drug Abuse

Recent reports have highlighted the misuse of vape devices for consuming illicit substances, making enforcement more difficult and increasing risks to public safety.

4. Creating a Healthier Future
Malaysia has made significant progress in tobacco control. A comprehensive vape ban would reinforce national efforts to reduce nicotine addiction and promote healthier communities.

We respectfully call upon the Government of Malaysia to:

- Enact legislation to prohibit the manufacture, import, sale, distribution, advertising, and use of all vape products.
- Strengthen enforcement against illegal sales, particularly to minors.
- Expand public education programmes on the dangers of nicotine addiction and vaping.
- Provide accessible smoking and nicotine cessation services for individuals seeking to quit.

We believe that protecting public health, especially the health of our children and future generations, must remain a national priority.

We therefore respectfully request the Government to take decisive action by implementing a nationwide ban on vape  products.
