The Campaign for the Abolition of Cruel Sports (CACS) has discovered that the Irish government' Department of Arts and Heritage has made known to the Limerick County Council the fact that the hare coursing venue at Glin contains a lime kiln. Lime kilns, once very common in Ireland, are now extremely rare, most of them having been demolished. They were used to burn lime that was necessary for the fertilizing of land and for numerous other purposes including building works and medicine. The few remaining ones are deemed worthy where possible of protection as part of the country’s architectural heritage. The lime kiln on Glin coursing field may be lost forever to Ireland’s heritage unless Limerick County Council acts decisively on this issue… Another reason to reject the application from Glin Coursing Club for retention and development of its so-called “sporting” facilities
