Over the past three years, millions of hardworking Americans have lost their jobs due to corporate layoffs, economic downturns, and the increasing use of AI-driven hiring systems that unfairly screen out qualified candidates. These automated systems are inhumane, discriminatory, and a direct violation of our fundamental rights to fair employment.


The Crisis: Unchecked AI in Hiring is Destroying the American Workforce
• Mass Layoffs: Since 2022, over 15.4 million workers have been laid off across various industries, leaving them struggling to re-enter the workforce.
• Rising Homelessness: As of 2025, over 650,000 Americans are experiencing homelessness on any given night, many of whom lost stable jobs and were unable to find new employment.
• Flawed Hiring Systems: AI ATS programs reject up to 75% of resumes before they ever reach a human recruiter. These systems unfairly screen out candidates due to formatting errors, employment gaps, or missing arbitrary keywords.
• Age and Disability Discrimination: Older workers, disabled individuals, and those with non-traditional career paths are disproportionately harmed by these automated systems, further deepening economic inequality.


Why This Matters


AI ATS systems dehumanize the hiring process, reducing job seekers to data points rather than recognizing their skills, experience, and potential.
