On 11/8/2022, our life was forever changed when our loved one Zaria McKeever was murdered. Two juveniles broke into her boyfriend’s apartment, with one shooting her 5 times, once being in the head at close range. This crime was orchestrated by Zaria’s jealous ex-boyfriend Erick Haynes. Erick had been stalking Zaria in the days leading up to and on the day of her murder. He had also been threatening to cause harm to her new boyfriend and that he would have the two juveniles be the ones to do it. Erick Haynes provided the gun used to kill Zaria and attempted to cover up the murder by placing himself in another city during the time of the crime. 

Since the start of the cases regarding the juveniles the County Prosecutor has made promises and led us to believe that they were going through with the process of adult certification. The new offer they have given to the juveniles is EJJ and 24 months in Red Wing.

We are asking if you can sign this petition to help us get the Governor to appoint the Attorney General, so he can be assigned to this case. We as a family and community do not have trust that the handling of Erick Haynes's case will be treated as serious and have great concerns that he too will have a plea deal that does not fit this heinous crime. The prosecutor should seek to protect the innocent and convict the guilty, consider the interests of the victims and witnesses, and respect the constitutional and legal rights of all person, including suspects and defendants. This has not happened and if there is no intervention it will be a miscarriage of Justice for Zaria and her daughter Zanay, who must now live without both parents because of her father Erick Haynes.
