FixPolitics Nigeria started this petition to The Federal Republic of Nigeria House of Representatives and Senate.

A referendum affords citizens a pathway to express their desire for specific laws to govern them in a true democracy of 'government of the people, by the people and for the people. It provides a safety valve for the citizen when the legislature and executive arms of government may need to be brought in line with the will of the people.

Nigerian’s current Constitution of 1999 does not allow for a referendum. By denying the citizens the means civic mechanism to express themselves, and putting the nation's progression solely in the partisan hands of the Executive and Legislature, the only options left to the citizens to express their will are disruptive protests, strikes and so on which often negatively affect lives and proprieties.

The citizens of Nigeria, like their counterparts in other democracies worldwide, must have a say in the decision-making of their country, and a referendum is what makes this possible.

This petition is a call to action for Nigerians to say “IT IS ENOUGH”. We want to take part in the decisions that will frame our nation. We want a better, stronger Nigeria.

Please sign this petition and let’s build a better Nigeria.
