Petition to Allocate Funds for Windrow Clearing in Aurora

Petition to Allocate Funds for Windrow Clearing in Aurora
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents of Aurora, request that the Town Council allocate necessary funds to provide full windrow clearing services for all residents.
Why This Matters:
1. Aurora’s Higher Tax Rate – Aurora homeowners pay 0.8270% in property taxes, a rate higher than Vaughan (0.7830%), yet Vaughan provides full windrow clearing as a standard service.
2. Unequal Access to Services – Aurora’s current windrow clearing program is limited to seniors and residents with disabilities for a $100 fee, while other municipalities offer it as part of their standard snow removal services.
3. Winter Safety Concerns – Uncleared windrows create hazardous conditions, especially for seniors, parents with strollers, and individuals with mobility challenges.
4. Efficient Use of Budget – Rather than increasing taxes, funds should be reallocated from discretionary spending to support essential winter maintenance.
What We Are Asking For:
• A commitment from Aurora’s Town Council to fund a full windrow clearing program without additional fees.
• A review of the current snow removal budget to prioritize residential windrow clearing.
• Implementation of a fair, city-wide policy similar to Vaughan, Toronto, and Richmond Hill.
We believe our tax dollars should go toward essential winter services that improve safety and accessibility for all residents.
By signing this petition, we urge the Town of Aurora to take immediate action to reallocate funds and implement a fair and effective windrow clearing program.
