Petition to adopt k9 partner Ozara by former handler

Petition to adopt k9 partner Ozara by former handler

The Issue

For three enriching years, I had the honor of being the handler to my K9 partner, Ozara, at the Pearl River County Sheriff's Department. Ozara wasn't just my work partner; she became my constant companion, spending time on duty and at home with me. We shared countless experiences together, from responding to emergency calls to routine vet visits. I was responsible for her home care and wellbeing 24/7, and our bond is beyond words.

Unfortunately, after six years of dedicated service to the department, I was let go from my position. The separation has been difficult, not only because I loved my role, but because it has meant leaving Ozara behind. Ozara is close to retirement in May of 2026. I requested to adopt Ozara or even purchase her. However, my request was denied.

K9 partners like Ozara are more than just 'work animals'—they become part of our families. We share a relationship built on trust, loyalty, and mutual respect. She is more than just a partner; she is a true friend and beloved family member to me.

It is imperative to allow handlers the opportunity to adopt their K9 partners, especially in cases where the dog is approaching retirement or the handler is leaving the agency. Ozara has already been moved between two handlers prior to our partnership. Keeping Ozara in a familiar environment where she is loved and well cared for will ensure her wellbeing and happiness in her retirement years.

I am calling on the Pearl River County Sheriff's Department to allow me to adopt Ozara, so she can live out her retirement in a familiar, loving environment. I have proven my commitment to her care and I am ready to continue providing her with the love and attention she deserves.

Please sign this petition to support my adoption of Ozara and to help her retire with her handler who loves her deeply. Your signature can make a difference for Ozara and her future.
