Petition to Address Infrastructure and Development Concerns in Schofields and Tallawong

The Issue

Immediate Halt on New Developments Until Essential Infrastructure Improvements Are Implemented in Schofields and Tallawong

We, the undersigned residents and concerned citizens of Schofields, Tallawong, and surrounding areas, respectfully petition the relevant authorities to halt all new large-scale apartment developments in our community until critical infrastructure improvements are fully implemented.

Background:

The Schofields and Tallawong areas are currently experiencing a significant surge in apartment construction. At present, there are already at least 2,000 apartments either under construction or recently completed around Schofields and Tallawong stations. Moreover, there are plans for over 3,000 additional apartments to be developed in the next 3-5 years. This rapid influx of new residents places considerable strain on our existing infrastructure and underscores the urgent need for enhancements before further development continues.

It is noteworthy that MP Michelle Rowland is actively listening to her community in response to more than 1,000 residents who signed a petition to halt plans for additional units around Stanhope and Glenwood. We, the residents of Schofields, believe it is essential to raise our voices similarly to achieve a comparable outcome and ensure our concerns are addressed by Mr Warren Kirby MP for Riverstone.

Our Concerns:

Public Transportation: The current bus frequency to Schofields and Tallawong stations is inadequate during peak hours, leading to significant congestion and inconvenience for commuters. The anticipated increase in population due to new developments would exacerbate these issues. We urgently need increased bus frequency to these stations to ensure reliable transportation.

Healthcare Facilities: Our community is in desperate need of a new Rouse Hill Hospital. With a growing population, access to healthcare services must be improved to address both routine and emergency needs. The lack of a nearby hospital poses a significant risk to residents.

Educational Facilities: The establishment of new high schools is crucial to accommodate the educational needs of our expanding population. The current infrastructure is insufficient to support the anticipated increase in students, which could impact educational quality.

Recreational Spaces: Schofields Park needs substantial renovation to meet the recreational needs of our growing community. Enhancements to this park would provide a valuable space for families and individuals to engage in outdoor activities and support overall community well-being.

Road Infrastructure: A new road connecting Old Windsor Road to Richmond Road is essential for alleviating traffic congestion and improving accessibility. This infrastructure is critical for smooth travel and connectivity within the area.

Leisure Facilities: The current Stanhope Leisure Centre does not meet the recreational needs of our growing community. We require a new, larger leisure centre with expanded facilities, including swimming pools, gym areas, and multi-purpose rooms, to support an increased population.
Our Request:

We urge the authorities to:

Halt New Developments: Immediately stop all approvals and construction of new large-scale apartment developments until the following infrastructure improvements are completed.
Enhance Public Transportation: Increase bus frequency to Schofields and Tallawong stations, especially during peak hours, to accommodate the current and future population.
Expand Healthcare Services: Prioritize and expedite the development of Rouse Hill Hospital to ensure adequate healthcare access for our community.
Develop Educational Facilities: Plan and construct new high schools to meet the growing educational needs of the population.
Revamp Recreational Spaces: Invest in the renovation of Schofields Park to enhance its recreational facilities.
Improve Road Infrastructure: Accelerate the construction of the road connecting Old Windsor Road to Richmond Road to improve traffic flow and connectivity.
Construct a New Leisure Centre: Build a new, larger leisure centre with expanded facilities to cater to the needs of the community.

We believe that halting new developments until these essential infrastructure improvements are fully implemented is crucial to maintaining the quality of life for current and future residents. We respectfully request that these considerations be prioritized to ensure sustainable and well-planned development in Schofields and Tallawong.

Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. We look forward to your prompt action and commitment to improving our community.
