Petition to add Dry Needling to Occupational Therapy Delaware Practice

The Issue

Hey there!

I'm Tiana Polite Brown, and I'm an occupational therapist passionate about improving patient care. I'm reaching out to the Delaware Board of Occupational Therapy to advocate for changes in the regulations around dry needling practices. I truly believe that dry needling can make a huge difference in reducing pain and enhancing mobility for patients in their everyday activities.

AOTA recently released a statement in April 2023 supporting interventions like dry needling alongside occupational therapy interventions to improve client engagement in occupations. I'll attach the statement to this post for reference.

Current Delaware Rules and regulation
5.0 Competence to Administer Treatment Modalities
Upon the request of the Board, or a member of the public, the licensee shall produce documentation demonstrating competence to administer a particular treatment modality. Competence may be shown by documented professional education, such as continuing education, in-service training or accredited higher education programs with documented coursework related to the modality in question. Determination of competence is at the discretion of the Board.
13 DE Reg. 1095 (02/01/10)
18 DE Reg. 995 (06/01/15)
20 DE Reg. 821 (04/01/17)
24 DE Reg. 380 (10/01/20)

I've been using dry needling in my practice for over three years, working with various patients including those pre and post-op, dealing with scar tissue, stroke-related spasticity, and pain management. It's been incredible to see how it helps them reconnect with the activities they love.

I'm asking for your support by adding your name to this petition. Let's work together to make a positive change in patient care! You can reach out to me through Facebook at Tiana Polite-Brown and Dynamic OT Services, LLC
