Petition to Activision: End the Crackdown on Modding and Respect Your Community

The issue

Dear Activision Management,

We, the undersigned, are furious and disillusioned fans of your games who are appalled by your recent actions against the modding community. Your continued attacks on harmless and beneficial mods and community projects are not only damaging to us as players but also harmful to the legacy and future of your games.

The Problem:

Activision's recent decision to shut down exciting and innovative modding projects like H2M a few hours before the release is nothing short of disgraceful. Mods have been a cornerstone of the gaming experience, providing countless hours of enjoyment and reviving interest in older titles. Instead of recognizing the value these projects bring, Activision has opted to stifle creativity and undermine the efforts of dedicated fans who contribute to the vitality of your games.

Why This Matters:

  • Killing Creativity: By targeting modders, Activision is blatantly suppressing the creativity that enhances and extends the life of your games. This short-sighted approach does nothing but alienate the very community that keeps your games relevant and exciting.
  • Destroying Goodwill: Your aggressive stance against modding is driving a wedge between the company and its loyal fan base. It’s clear that Activision is more interested in stifling innovation than in nurturing the community that supports its products.
  • Missed Opportunities: Modding is a golden opportunity for increasing engagement with older games and boosting sales. By shutting down these projects, Activision is squandering chances to revitalize interest in classic titles and grow the gaming community.
    Our Demands:

End the War on Modding:

We demand an immediate end to the unnecessary crackdown on modding. Activision needs to stop targeting creative projects and instead support and embrace the modding community. Set clear guidelines that respect both your intellectual property and the creativity of your fans.

Respect Creative Efforts:

We demand that Activision stops attacking harmless and beneficial mods and community projects. Recognize and support the value these projects bring to your games rather than trying to suppress them.
Show You Care: We expect Activision to take concrete steps to promote a more supportive and collaborative environment for modders and gamers alike. Your actions must reflect a commitment to valuing and nurturing the community that drives your success.
Our Response:

In response to this blatant disregard for the community, we are taking a stand. We are calling for a full boycott of Black Ops 6 until Activision changes its destructive approach to modding and starts respecting its players and creators. As someone who has supported your company in the past, including purchasing Modern Warfare Remastered, I am now forced to reconsider my support and seek a refund. I will not be buying Black Ops 6, and neither will many others who are outraged by your actions.

It’s time for Activision to listen to its fans and change course. We will not support a company that destroys creativity and disrespects its community. It’s time for you to make things right.

Sincerely,

All the Gaming Community
