Petition: Strengthen Waste Management and Sustainability in Cagayan de Oro City

We, the concerned residents of Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental, urge the local government to address the ongoing challenges in waste  management that pose significant risks to our environment and community health. Despite efforts such as the “No Segregation, No Collection” policy and the allocation of substantial funding for waste management programs, many barangays are still struggling to comply fully. This has resulted in improper waste segregation, illegal dumping, and the rapid filling of the engineered sanitary landfill in Barangay Pagalungan. Without immediate action, these issues could lead to worsening environmental degradation and public health concerns.

To create lasting solutions, we call for stronger enforcement of waste management policies, particularly waste segregation at the source, with clear penalties for violations. Community-wide educational campaigns should also be prioritized to raise awareness about proper waste disposal practices and the importance of reducing waste. We encourage the city to invest in sustainable waste management technologies, such as waste-to-energy facilities and expanded recycling programs, while ensuring waste collection systems are more efficient and accessible, especially in underserved areas.

By signing this petition, we stand united in advocating for a cleaner, greener, and healthier Cagayan de Oro City. Together, let us work toward a sustainable future where effective waste management becomes a reality for all residents.
