Petition Singapore Airshow to Divest from Corporations Enabling Israel's War on Gaza
The Issue
Dear Singapore Airshow, Experia Events, and Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen
I am a concerned Singaporean deeply affected by Israel's ongoing war in Gaza. This war has displaced nearly the entire population in Gaza, resulted in alarming rates of civilian casualties, and severely deprived Palestinians of their basic human rights.
The following ten companies, who have been invited to attend the Singapore Airshow in February 2024, continue to supply armaments to the state of Israel despite the ongoing atrocities committed against the civilians in Gaza.
The companies are
- Israel Aerospace Industries, a state-owned manufacturer of military systems and a major supplier of the Israel Defence Forces (IDF)
- Elbit Systems, the largest weapons manufacturer in Israel and one of the primary suppliers of the IDF
- Tomer, an Israeli government-owned company that manufactures the rocket systems in air and land weapons used by the IDF
- SIBAT, which helps Israel profit from the weapons used indiscriminately on Palestinian civilians
- Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, an Israeli state-owned weapons manufacturer that supplies the IDF with the Spike anti-tank missiles (amongst many other weapons and drones), which have been used in Gaza
- BAE Systems, which supplies parts to Lockheed Martin’s F35 fighter jets currently flown by the IDF
- Boeing, which supplied thousands of bombs to the IDF just in the period between 7 Oct 2023 and now
- General Dynamics, which sells artillery and bombs to Israel, and whose CFO has tastelessly commented on the ‘incremental demand potential’ coming out of Israel’s war on Gaza
- Lockheed Martin, which has continued to supply IDF with fighter jets & hellfire missiles even with continued war crimes & atrocities committed by the IDF against civilians in Gaza
- Northrop Grumman, which supplies missile systems and parts used in fighter jets to Israel
Some of the companies named above often tout their systems and armaments as 'battle-tested', a grisly euphemism for the fact that these weapons and technology are tested on Palestinian civilians, in clear defiance of basic human rights, before being exported around the world.
Furthermore, it has come to our attention that several of the aerial and static displays by our own Air Force (RSAF) will also be showcasing the drones and aircraft that the above companies manufacture. Many of these are also being used to kill hundreds of men, women, and children in Gaza every day. These are listed below
- F15 fighter aircraft, produced by Boeing, and flown by the IDF
- AH-64D Apache helicopter, produced by Boeing
- F16 fighter aircraft, produced by Lockheed Martin, and flown by the IDF
- CH-47F helicopter, produced by Boeing
- Hermes 450, produced by Elbit systems, and described as the 'backbone' of Israel's military drone fleet
- Heron 1, a drone produced by Israel Aerospace Industries, and used by the IDF
The use of these military systems and technology in Israel's war on Gaza has killed civilians at an alarming rate of over 27,000 in 4 months. Israel has indiscriminately bombed civilian areas in Gaza, intentionally restricted delivery of humanitarian aid to said civilians, targeted journalists, healthcare workers, and hospitals, forced over 1000 children in Gaza to have one or more of their limbs amputated (often without anaesthetic), and obliterated entire multigenerational families using these weapons and technology.
The state of Israel has deliberately created one of the most abominable humanitarian crises of our times. It has committed and continues to commit appalling war crimes, and is currently under investigation by the International Court of Justice for the crime of genocide.
The Singapore Airshow, one of Asia's largest aerospace and defence events, has an influential role in this scenario. It is choosing to showcase corporations that are enabling and profiteering from this war – indirectly supporting the human rights abuses perpetrated by Israel in Gaza. By continuing its association with such entities, the Singapore Airshow becomes complicit in their actions. We, the people of Singapore, urge you to take a stand against these injustices.
We call upon our Minister for Defence, Dr Ng Eng Hen, and the organisers of the Singapore Airshow 2024 to
- Divest Singapore Airshow of the above ten companies that are enabling and profiting from Israel's genocidal campaign in Gaza, until Israel complies with international humanitarian law
- Ban the showcase of the above six war machines that are either manufactured by complicit war-profiteering corporations or blatantly being used to flatten Gaza and terrorize innocents, until Israel complies with international humanitarian law
Through this action, we can send a powerful message to Singaporeans and the world - that profit should never come at the cost of human lives or dignity. There is no place for any corporation that stands for brutality, apartheid, and genocide, in our nation.
Please sign this petition today and take a stand on the side of humanity.
Ceasefire Now.
