The Issue

To the Barrett Township Board of Supervisors:

We, the undersigned residents and stakeholders of Barrett Township, respectfully request that the Board initiate an open and transparent appointment process for the Administrative and Operations Director position at the Barrett Administrative and Recreation Complex (BARC), consistent with the Board’s authority to make annual appointments.

This petition does not seek the removal of any individual, nor does it request the initiation of a traditional employment or hiring process. Rather, it asks that the Board publicly announce the availability of the appointment and invite qualified individuals to submit letters of interest and professional résumés for the Board’s consideration prior to making its appointment decision.

The Administrative and Operations Director oversees critical township functions at BARC, including facility operations, scheduling, public safety requirements, community programming, and coordination with tenants and the public. Given the scope and importance of this role, residents believe it is appropriate for the Board to consider multiple qualified candidates when making its annual appointment, in order to ensure the strongest possible leadership for the facility and the community it serves.

An open appointment process is a recognized municipal governance practice that promotes transparency, accountability, and public confidence while fully preserving the Board’s appointment authority. Supporting this petition means supporting thoughtful stewardship of township resources and a well-managed BARC for the benefit of all residents.

We respectfully request that the Board:

     1. Publicly announce the Administrative and Operations Director appointment opportunity

     2. Invite letters of interest and professional qualifications from qualified individuals

     3. Appoint the individual the Board determines is best suited to serve Barrett Township and BARC

Respectfully submitted,
Residents and stakeholders of Barrett Township
