Bahlali, Happy Sunday
In my last update, I promised to share the Op-Ed I submitted to one of South Africa’s biggest Sunday papers. It went unpublished, but that doesn’t mean you don’t get to read it as you prepare for the week ahead.
As promised, I’ve published it in my newsletter, exactly as written. It explains why withdrawing the draft amendments to the National Credit Act was the correct and responsible call, despite the noisy pushback from Big Business and the Banks. This is about ordinary people (you, me and almost 200 thousand of us) winning a critical fight against powerful people.
The withdrawal is a welcome and much-delayed affirmation of the role of citizens’ voices in the co-creation of policy. Too often, this has been a space in which other interest groups have had an outsized voice to shape policy according to their whims. This historic moment has changed that, hopefully forever.

Make sure you subscribe to the newsletter (https://figthingforbetter.substack.com) so you can keep receiving these insights directly, as well as other topics I discuss there (like what’s going on in our Municipalities).
Let’s keep fighting to create the South Africa of our best dreams, together.
Have a blessed week.
Regards,
Sabelo
