Petition: Protect LGBTQ+ Adolescents from Family Rejection, Abuse, and Expulsion

The Issue

LGBTQ+ adolescents in Greece are being humiliated, isolated, and forced out of their homes because of who they are. They deserve to be safe and protected.

In Greece today, LGBTQ+ adolescents and young people are -more often than not- being punished for existing.

Teenagers -still legally minors and financially dependent- are facing hostility, humiliation, psychological abuse, forced isolation, and in many cases expulsion from their family homes because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

This is not guidance.
This is not “parental concern.”
This is abuse and abandonment.

For LGBTQ+ adolescents, family rejection has devastating consequences:

  • severe anxiety, depression, and trauma
  • increased risk of self-harm and suicide
  • homelessness at a young age
  • exposure to violence, exploitation, and long-term instability, at an age when identity, safety, and belonging are critical, many are left completely alone.

Despite this reality, LGBTQ+ adolescents in Greece remain largely unprotected:

  • family rejection is rarely recognized as a form of abuse
  • emergency housing and crisis support for at-risk adolescents is extremely limited
  • parents and guardians receive little to no education on LGBTQ+ issues
  • young people often have no safe, confidential way to ask for help. Silence allows this harm to continue inside homes, unseen and unchallenged.

This petition calls for immediate and concrete action to protect LGBTQ+ adolescents before more lives are permanently damaged.

  1. We call on the Greek State and relevant institutions to:
Recognize family rejection, humiliation, and expulsion of LGBTQ+ adolescents as forms of abuse and neglect.
  2. Create emergency protection mechanisms and safe housing for adolescents at risk.
Provide specialized psychological and social support services trained in LGBTQ+ adolescent needs.
  3. Implement mandatory education and awareness programs for parents, educators, and child-protection professionals.
  4. Establish clear, confidential reporting pathways so adolescents can seek help without fear.

Being LGBTQ+ is not a phase, a provocation, or a problem.
    Violence, rejection, and abandonment are.

No adolescent should be forced to choose between their identity and their safety.

Protection, dignity, and support should never depend on acceptance at home.

By signing this petition, you stand for a basic truth:
LGBTQ+ adolescents deserve safety, respect, and a future -without conditions.

Sign. Share. Demand change.
Because silence protects abuse, not young people. 🏳️‍🌈
