Presidential pledge to fund US basic income pilot programs

This petition had 172 supporters

A basic income revolutionizes the safety net by removing government bureaucracy by simply giving everyone a check. Experiments around the world have shown greater entrepreneurship, improved health and education outcomes, lower poverty and little negative effect on work hours. Many economists believe the basic income will be essential as automation and robots eliminate jobs.

The last basic income experiments in the US were conducted in the 60s and 70s with incomplete data and results. These pilot programs need to be updated to determine the effect of a basic income today.

This petition calls on all of the candidates for US president to pledge to fund a series of basic income pilot program experiments across the United States. These experiments will help determine whether basic income is in fact a superior social safety net for the American people.
