The organizer of this petition knows my stance which is that I support an Overdose Prevention Center (OPC) and the public process of reviewing an appropriate location. We have a drug crisis in our city and the Central District that I represent is the epicenter of that crisis. I do not support disinformation around the OPC and its potential site. Opponents of the OPC have claimed that drugs will be supplied for use and that children will be allowed to use drugs among other things that are not true. Having an OPC will help individuals who don't have anywhere to go. It will help reduce the amount of public substance misuse, reduce syringe litter, provide referrals to recovery services, and of course save lives. I ask that people keep an open mind because the community safety issues we see cannot all be solved by police alone.
