Hi all, Please see below information from a group of residents who live along Deer Park Avenue concerned with yet another zoning change application that will damage a neighborhood and set dangerous precedent for putting additional neighborhoods at risk. Laura D. ---------------------- STOP THE COMMERCIALIZATION OF THE TOWN OF HUNTINGTON Why did the Huntington Town Board take the side of a Maryland developer and push through an expedited hearing to rezone ten acres of R-40 (single family-zoned property) for an Assisted Living Housing project on Deer Park Avenue against the wishes of our community Instead of having the Town Board Public Hearing in the evening, when our taxpayers/residents can attend, and give us very little time to prepare for the Public Hearing on Tuesday, July 12th 2pm? Only Susan Berland agreed that the hearing should be put off until September when the Town Board holds a scheduled evening meeting when working residents can attend. The Town Board is currently entertaining multiple proposals for the commercialization of the residential neighborhoods of Huntington including this project on Deer Park Avenue between the LIE and Northern State Parkway, another Assisted Living Housing project on the corner of Deer Park Avenue and the LIE South Service Road, and a new mall on Jericho Turnpike and Manor Road, all counter to the approved Comprehensive Plan of the Town of Huntington. Additionally, the developer of this project is requesting zoning variances for building height, setbacks from residential streets, parking within setbacks, and for the installation of a sewage treatment plant on the property, all of which will create dangerous precedents that future proposals will look to in arguing for the approval of their projects in our area. There is a domino effect starting to take shape. We must stand up together against this push to change the character of our residential community.
