The Illinois Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Act was passed to help seriously ill people obtain relief from debilitating medical conditions.

Late last year the state's Medical Cannabis Advisory Board, following a thorough review of scientific evidence, approved eight new medical conditions for inclusion in the program: Osteoarthritis, various types of chronic pain, autism, IBS, panic disorders, diabetes and PTSD.

Now the state Department of Public Health is considering whether to adopt the board's recommendations and grant the opportunity for legal relief to millions of Illinoisans suffering from these conditions. A decision is expected by the end of this month.
