WHO WE ARE:
Concerned community members, fellow drivers, and supporters of privacy and dignity for workers.
WHY THIS MATTERS:
On 9 August 2026 at 13:52, MDS - Mitchell's Plain Driving Service posted an "IMPORTANT NOTICE" in their WhatsApp group MDS GROUP 4 Strandfontein .
In that notice, MDS used the personal photos, full names, and vehicle registration numbers of 3 private individuals:
NABEELAH
REECE
DINO
The problem:
Dino, Nabeelah and Reece are no longer drivers for MDS. MDS did NOT get their permission to use their images, names, or car details for a business warning post.
This action has:
Violated POPIA - The Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013
Section 9: Process info lawfully and fairly
Section 11: You must have consent to process personal information
Section 18: You must notify the data subject
Defamed their character by publicly associating them with MDS in a negative "warning" about "former MDS drivers", damaging their reputation and ability to earn a living.
Compromised their privacy and safety by publishing their faces and vehicle registration plates to hundreds of people.
No company is allowed to use someone’s face to shame or warn clients after they have left.
OUR DEMANDS:
We, the undersigned, demand that MDS Mitchell's Plain Driving Service:
Issue a PUBLIC WRITTEN APOLOGY in the same MDS GROUP4 Strandfontein and all other groups where this notice was posted.
Immediately DELETE this notice and permanently remove all photos of Dino, Nabeelah, and Reece from all MDS platforms and groups
Provide WRITTEN CONFIRMATION that MDS will comply with POPIA and will not use personal images without consent again
Conduct an internal investigation into who authorized this post
SIGN THIS PETITION TO SUPPORT:The right to privacy. The right to not be defamed. The right of workers to leave a company with dignity.
