A parent receives a troubling call from their child about an incident at school. Days pass—then weeks—with no clear updates. No written explanation. No understanding of what happened, or whether the school environment has improved.

This experience is not just frustrating—it is deeply unsettling. And it is happening in our community.

Why This Matters

Families are not consistently informed when bullying incidents are reported, investigated, or resolved. Access to information can be unclear or delayed.

This lack of transparency risks inconsistent handling of serious concerns and erodes trust between families and the district. Every student deserves a safe, supportive environment—and every family deserves clear, timely communication.

 What Are We Asking For?

We urge the Board of Education to adopt common-sense, student-focused reforms:

    ✅ Timely parent notification at every stage of a bullying-related case 

    ✅ Clear access to reports and investigation findings 

    ✅ Defined timelines for investigations 

    ✅ Post-incident safety and support plans 

    ✅ Increased oversight in high-risk areas (e.g., buses, hallways) 

    ✅ Stronger support for students with disabilities 

    ✅ A transparent and accessible appeals process 

    ✅ Access to mental health resources when needed

⚠️ Call for Unified Action

We respectfully call on residents of the Newark Valley Central School District to stand together and urge the Board of Education to:

     ->Strengthen its Code of Conduct and anti-bullying policies

     ->Direct administration to pursue available state grants that support safer school environments and positive culture change. Clear, transparent, and consistent protections are essential to safeguarding every student.

Together, our collective voice can drive meaningful, accountable change—and ensure a safe, equitable learning environment for all.
