We, the undersigned residents of Pitsea, call on Essex County Council to take immediate action to improve road safety in Ashlyns and the wider Chalvedon estate.

On 1 February 2025, two young children tragically lost their lives on our local roads. This devastating incident has deeply affected our community and highlighted long-standing concerns about road safety in Pitsea. Residents and councillors have repeatedly raised these issues, yet little action has been taken.

This was an accident waiting to happen. We must ensure no more lives are lost due to inadequate safety measures.

We demand that Essex County Council urgently:

 1. Review street lighting in Ashlyns and the wider Chalvedon estate, ensuring all broken lights are repaired and additional lighting is installed where needed.

 2. Improve the zebra crossing on Ashlyns, with clearer signage and refreshed road markings.

 3. Introduce traffic-calming measures along Ashlyns to slow down vehicles and protect pedestrians.

 4. Install proper footpaths on both sides of Ashlyns so pedestrians do not have to walk in the road.

This tragedy should never have happened. Lessons must be learned, and action must be taken to prevent future loss of life. We demand that Essex County Council provide a full action plan within 28 days outlining how these improvements will be delivered.
