Petition House Judiciary Committee to investigate Trump's statements to deport US Citizens
The Issue
We, the undersigned citizens of the United States, respectfully call upon the House Judiciary Committee to immediately initiate an investigation into statements and policy proposals attributed to President Donald Trump regarding the deportation of U.S. citizens to international detention camps without due process of law.
As widely reported by news organizations during the April 14, 2025, meeting with El Salvador President Nayib Bukele, the President advocated for forcibly removing U.S. citizens to foreign detention facilities without trial, legal counsel, or other fundamental protections guaranteed by the Constitution. These proposals, if pursued or enacted, would represent a grave violation of the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments, which explicitly guarantee that no citizen shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law.
Such actions would not only constitute profound constitutional violations but could also rise to the level of "high Crimes and Misdemeanors" as envisioned by Article II, Section 4 of the United States Constitution. The potential abuse of executive power to target citizens for extrajudicial removal to lethal environments demands immediate scrutiny.
Given the seriousness of the matter, I respectfully urge the House Judiciary Committee to:
- Open a formal investigation into the President’s statements and any supporting actions
- Determine whether these actions constitute a breach of constitutional duties
- Consider whether such breaches warrant further proceedings under the Committee’s impeachment authority
The American people depend on Congress to defend the Constitution and safeguard the rule of law. I trust that the Committee will take its oversight responsibilities seriously and act to ensure that no citizen’s rights are placed in jeopardy through the unlawful exercise of executive power.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent and critical matter.
