Guildford Borough Council - take immediate action on Bridge Street

Guildford Borough Council - take immediate action on Bridge Street
The Issue
On Saturday 20th February a car driving along Bridge Street veered off the road and into a pavement full of shoppers -- tragically one woman in her 30s was killed, and a number of people were hospitalised.
Following this incident on Bridge Street, Guildford, it's time for the council to look seriously at the road and help reduce any further tragic deaths. It is a horrendously busy road, and a main pedestrian thoroughfare between the university/train station and town centre.
Unfortunately the two do not mix well. The pavement is barely wide enough to walk in a pair, and the three lanes of traffic are often treated like a racetrack with drivers rushing to get through the lights.
We, the undersigned, ask the council to take action to reduce the number of incidents. This may include, but is not limited to, raising the pavement, installing iron railings alongside the pavement to stop people crossing, setting a 20mph limit, installing speed cameras, widening the pavement, and promoting the alternative route via the Odeon plaza.
Guildford Borough Council and Surrey County Council, forget about the financial cost and think about the human cost. Please, take immediate action.
