At tonight’s Hinckley Township Trustee Meeting (March 17, 2026 at 6:30 PM), the agenda includes discussion of a resident request for an ODOT traffic study. This confirms that the Township is aware of the concerns raised by residents and that the issue is now being formally discussed at the Trustee level. A traffic study is a step forward, but it is not the same as a Road Safety Audit (RSA). Traffic studies focus primarily on volume and speed data. An RSA evaluates real-world safety conditions, including sight lines, intersection geometry, driver behavior, and near-miss conditions. It is important to note that ODOT TIMS crash data only captures reported accidents. It does not include the frequent near-misses that many residents witness at this intersection. We continue to respectfully request a formal Road Safety Audit (RSA) conducted by ODOT or qualified traffic safety engineers. This review should evaluate sight distance limitations, intersection geometry, fixed hazards such as utility pole placement, and driver behavior patterns, and identify practical, cost-effective improvements.
