Petition for town to pass "The Food Sovereignty Act" in Casco, Maine.

Petition for town to pass "The Food Sovereignty Act" in Casco, Maine.
The Issue
I am a resident of Casco, Maine who believes strongly in our right to choose where our food comes from. The ability to support local food suppliers without interference from the government is a freedom we should all have. This is why I am calling for an ordinance of the Food Sovereignty Act in both Casco and Cumberland County.
The Food Sovereignty Act allows direct producer-to-consumer transactions of food or food products, giving us citizens the power to self-govern our own sustenance needs. This act has already been implemented successfully in over 40 towns across Maine since its inception in 2011 (source: Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry). It not only supports local economies but also fosters a sense of community through shared values around nutrition and sustainability.
By passing this ordinance, we can ensure that every citizen has access to fresh, locally produced foods while supporting our local farmers and producers. We can create an environment where people are free to make their own choices about what they eat without unnecessary governmental interference.
Let's make sure that Casco and Cumberland County join the growing number of communities embracing this important legislation. Sign this petition today if you believe in our right to choose what we consume within our town - because that's how life should be.
