Petition for the Removal & Replacement of the Head Coaches of the OPRF Cheer Program
Petition for the Removal & Replacement of the Head Coaches of the OPRF Cheer Program
The Issue
We, the undersigned former cheerleaders, parents, students, alumni, and supporters of the OPRFHS Cheer Program, respectfully request the immediate removal and replacement of the current head coaches; Coach Brianna Burton & Kamari Bostic, due to a longstanding pattern of behavior that has created a harmful and emotionally damaging environment for athletes.
This petition is not based on rumors or isolated disagreements. It reflects the firsthand experiences of current and former cheerleaders who have personally experienced or witnessed repeated verbal mistreatment, intimidation, discouragement, and behavior that has negatively affected the mental well-being of athletes on both the varsity and junior varsity teams.
Throughout their time on the team, athletes have reported experiences such as:
Being spoken to in a demeaning or disrespectful manner.
Feeling belittled rather than coached after making mistakes.
Constant criticism without constructive guidance or encouragement.
Favoritism that has created division within the program.
An atmosphere where athletes are afraid to ask questions or express concerns for fear of retaliation or embarrassment.
Repeated comments and coaching practices that have damaged athletes' confidence and self-esteem.
The impact of this environment has been profound. Many talented cheerleaders have lost their passion for a sport they once loved. Some have quit the program entirely, while others have continued only because of their commitment to their teammates despite the emotional toll. Athletes should leave practices feeling challenged, supported, and motivated—not anxious, defeated, or questioning their worth.
