The Issue

To: The Honorable Members of the Oklahoma Legislature

We, the undersigned citizens of Oklahoma, call upon our state legislators to support and enact the "Oklahoma Animal Abuse Registry and Foster Support Act" to protect our animals and promote responsible pet ownership.

Purpose of the Petition:

This proposed legislation aims to establish a comprehensive Animal Abuse Registry that will track individuals convicted of animal abuse for a period of ten years. The registry will be accessible to rescues, shelters, breeders, veterinary offices, and pet supply companies to ensure that animals are placed in safe and loving homes.

Key Provisions:

1. Animal Abuse Registry:Create a registry to prevent individuals convicted of animal abuse from owning, lending, or purchasing dogs.

2. Duration and Assessment:Maintain the registry for ten years, with the option for individuals to be removed after an assessment by a mental health professional and completion of community service.

3. Foster Care Initiative:Redirect funds from euthanasia procedures to financially support foster families, encouraging more people to open their homes to dogs in need.

Why This Matters:

- Protecting vulnerable animals from abuse.

- Promoting responsible pet ownership.

- Reducing euthanasia rates through increased fostering opportunities.
