PETITION FOR THE EXCLUSIVE RECOGNITION OF VIDEO GAME MUSIC
The Issue
Whereas, we as a family have already endured the emotional, cinematic, and often painfully predictable experience of selecting music from television shows;
Whereas, television music has already had its day in the sun, its moment in the spotlight, and frankly, more than enough screen time;
Whereas, video game music remains an entirely separate and vastly underrepresented musical universe containing orchestral masterpieces, electronic bangers, nostalgic 8-bit anthems, boss battle themes, menu music, victory music, and songs that have somehow remained permanently lodged in our brains since childhood;
Whereas, placing “Video Games OR TV Shows” into one category creates an unfair musical arms race in which someone can simply pick a song from a massively popular television show and collect easy nostalgia points;
Therefore, we, the undersigned members of this family, hereby demand:
ARTICLE I
That the category be officially renamed:
VIDEO GAME MUSIC
ARTICLE II
That television shows be respectfully thanked for their participation and then escorted from the premises.
ARTICLE III
That all songs featured in video games shall be considered eligible, including but not limited to:
● Original video game soundtracks
● Songs licensed for video games
● Menu music
● Character themes
● Boss music
● Level music
● Loading-screen music
● Victory/defeat music
● Songs that caused us to leave the game paused for 45 minutes because the soundtrack was that good
ARTICLE IV
That this petition shall be considered not an act of hostility toward television, but an act of musical justice.
We have already done TV.
We have seen the shows.
We have heard the songs.
Now let the games have their turn.
FINAL STATEMENT
This isn’t about changing the league.
It’s about making the league better.
SIGN THE PETITION.
SAVE VIDEO GAME MUSIC.
BANISH TELEVISION TO THE CATEGORY IT ALREADY HAD.
