Petition for the Establishment of Veterinary Care on Cayman Brac

The Issue

Dear Honourable Premier O’Connor-Connolly,

Re: Petition for the Establishment of a Full-Time Veterinarian Position on Cayman Brac

We, the undersigned residents and concerned citizens of Cayman Brac, humbly and respectfully write this petition to bring to your attention a matter of utmost importance to our community, which is the need for a full-time veterinarian on our beloved island of Cayman Brac.

The presence of a dedicated veterinarian on Cayman Brac would significantly enhance the overall health and welfare of our animals. Beyond basic healthcare, a full-time vet would contribute to disease prevention, responsible pet ownership practices, and community education. This investment is vital for the long-term welfare of our animals and the sustainability of our community.

We respectfully request the support of the Government of the Cayman Islands in allocating funds and resources for the establishment of a full-time veterinarian position on Cayman Brac. This initiative is not just about caring for our animals; it is an investment in the health, happiness, and cohesiveness of our community. We believe that by taking this step, we can create a safer and more nurturing environment for both our two-legged and four-legged residents.

As it stands now, any animal that gets hurt or becomes sick must be flown over to Grand Cayman for proper medical care, and in many cases the animals die, as they are not in any condition to fly.

In conclusion, we implore you, Honorable Premier, to prioritize the establishment of a full-time veterinarian position on Cayman Brac. Our animals are integral to our community, and their well-being reflects our collective commitment to compassion and responsibility.

We trust that you will consider this petition with the seriousness it deserves, and we appreciate your dedication to the welfare and betterment of our beloved island.

We do realize that a Government Vet comes over once a month usually from Wednesday until Saturday to check on the livestock animals, and if there is a domestic pet in need they will do what they can for it.  However, considering the amount of people who live full time on the Brac with pets, we feel this is NOT enough.  Even if the Government could send a Vet over once a week that could see to domestic animals as well as livestock that would be a good start. We acknowledge that the Humane Society has been trying to help & resolve this issue and  are making some headway, but not enough without the Governments support.

Thank you for your attention to this matter and your past sterling service to Cayman Brac and the Cayman Islands as a whole, as we eagerly await your positive action which will benefit both our animals and our Cayman Brac community at large.

Sincerely,

The Residents of Cayman Brac
