The Issue

TO: THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSIONERS OF THE TOWN OF PINE ISLAND, TEXAS

We, the undersigned qualified, registered voters residing within the incorporated city limits of the Town of Pine Island, Texas, respectfully submit this petition pursuant to Chapter 62 of the Texas Local Government Code.

PETITION PURPOSE:

We, the undersigned citizens, hereby petition the governing body of the Town of Pine Island, Texas, to order an election on the question of abolishing (unincorporating) the municipal corporation of the Town of Pine Island, Texas.

STATEMENT OF JUSTIFICATION:

The residents of Pine Island are deeply dissatisfied with the current municipal administration, including excessive tax burdens, lack of fiscal accountability, and the actions of the current Mayor, City Secretary, City Manager, and Board of Commissioners. Furthermore, despite collecting taxes from residents, the town administration fails to provide essential municipal services, including municipal utilities, road maintenance, and dedicated emergency services. We believe the financial and governance burdens of maintaining a city government outweigh any benefits, and we seek to return the area to unincorporated status under the direct jurisdiction of Waller County.
