On August 9, 2024, Dr. Debnath was found dead in the seminar hall of the college under circumstances that were initially reported as a suicide by certain members of the hospital administration. However, subsequent investigations, including a post-mortem, confirmed that she was brutally raped and murdered.

This case has not only shaken the medical fraternity but also sparked widespread outrage among citizens across the nation. The lack of immediate and transparent action by the authorities has raised serious concerns about the safety and security of women, especially those working in high-stress environments like medical institutions.

The initial attempts by the hospital management to dismiss this brutal murder as a suicide, coupled with the alleged involvement of miscreants in destroying potential evidence during protests, have further deepened public mistrust in the local administration. The violent clashes that occurred during the protests, where miscreants attacked the hospital premises, only added to the tragedy, resulting in injuries to both police officers and civilians.

Given the gravity of the situation, we urgently request the following actions:

1. Immediate and Thorough Investigation: The investigation should be carried out by an independent agency, such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), to ensure an unbiased and thorough probe into the case. This will help restore public confidence in the justice system and prevent any potential tampering with evidence.
2. Protection of Witnesses and Whistleblowers: All individuals who have come forward with information regarding this case must be provided with adequate protection to ensure their safety and encourage others to step forward without fear.
3. Accountability of Hospital Management: The hospital authorities who attempted to cover up this crime as a suicide must be held accountable. This includes the immediate suspension and investigation of all personnel involved in this gross negligence and possible collusion.
4. Swift Justice for the Victim: We request the judiciary to expedite the legal proceedings to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice without undue delay. The victim's family and the medical community deserve closure, and the guilty must face the full extent of the law.
5. Strengthening Safety Protocols in Medical Institutions: This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for improved safety measures for medical professionals, particularly female doctors and staff, within their workplaces. We urge the government to implement stricter security protocols across all medical institutions.
   This petition is not just a plea for justice for Dr. Moumita Debnath, but also a call to action to prevent such atrocities from occurring in the future. We believe that by addressing this issue with the seriousness it deserves, we can ensure a safer and more just society for all.
