Petition for Stronger Criminal Justice Reform and Swift Justice for Victims
The Issue
The American justice system exists to protect innocent people, deliver justice to victims, and hold violent offenders accountable. Too often, however, families are forced to wait decades for justice while convicted murderers remain on death row through years of repeated appeals and procedural delays.
I believe our criminal justice system should place a greater emphasis on accountability, deterrence, and timely justice.
Hold Violent Offenders Fully Accountable
The American justice system exists to protect innocent people, deliver justice to victims, and hold violent offenders accountable. Too often, however, families are forced to wait decades for justice while convicted murderers remain on death row through years of repeated appeals and procedural delays.
I believe our criminal justice system should place a greater emphasis on accountability, deterrence, and timely justice.
I call on state and federal lawmakers to:
Reduce unnecessary delays in death penalty cases while preserving the constitutional right to due process.
Establish firm timelines for appeals so that sentences are carried out without decades of delay.
Provide additional resources to courts so capital cases can be reviewed more efficiently.
Review and reform laws governing the insanity defense to ensure that individuals who intentionally commit murder remain criminally accountable for their actions.
Strengthen victims' rights by ensuring families are informed, heard, and respected throughout the judicial process.
Enact sentencing policies that reflect the seriousness of violent crimes and provide meaningful deterrence to those who would consider committing similar offenses.
I believe that when someone intentionally and unlawfully takes another person's life, the law should recognize that they have knowingly accepted the possibility of the most severe punishment authorized by law. Justice should be certain, timely, and proportionate to the gravity of the crime.
This petition is about restoring public confidence in the justice system by reducing unnecessary delays, strengthening accountability, supporting victims' families, and ensuring that the punishment for the most serious crimes reflects the seriousness of the harm inflicted.
If you believe our justice system should deliver justice more swiftly, hold violent offenders fully accountable, and better serve victims and their families, please sign this petition and urge your elected representatives to act.
