Petition for Safety: Spring Hill Elementary

The Issue

Recently, our community faced an unsettling situation that compelled us to raise our concerns to local and county authorities. On September 2nd, a man carrying various weapons was seen in the vicinity of Spring Hill Elementary School (McLean VA) property. Parents, the Principal, and staff acted quickly to protect students. Although the man’s intent has not been confirmed, this incident highlights the need for additional safety measures at our school.

We are calling upon local and county officials to take action to ensure the safety and security of our school.

To address this alarming situation, we ask that the county and school board:

  • Implement surveillance or monitoring on school grounds to prevent further threats near the school premises.
  • Increase patrols during school arrival and dismissal times.
  • Assign a dedicated School Resource Officer (SRO) at Spring Hill Elementary. A consistent SRO presence will enhance school security, provide a rapid response to potential threats, and build relationships with students, staff, and the community.

We are grateful for the work of our law enforcement and county officials, and ensuring the safety of our children and community is a responsibility we all share.

By signing this petition, you are joining a community-driven initiative to enhance safety measures around Spring Hill Elementary School in McLean, VA, and the surrounding area. Together, we can urge our local officials to act swiftly and efficiently. And we hope that this will result in a new standard across all Fairfax County Public Schools.
