The time for action is now. After speaking with local residents, it is clear that urgent action is needed to address the rising crime in our neighbourhoods. 

Crime Rates and Impacts:

• Hallam: Last year 831 incidents, reflecting a significant 20% increase from 2022.
• Doveton: A total of 855 incidents were reported, a 14.61% rise since 2022.
• Eumemmerring: 261 incidents were recorded last year, representing a concerning 26.7% increase from 2022.

We urge our community to come together and take action to stop the rising youth crime by addressing its root causes—unemployment, lack of responsible parenting, and limited awareness of the consequences. 

These rising crime rates have left residents feeling unsafe, and local businesses are suffering losses due to criminal activities. The high cost of insurance in our area reflects the insecurity we face.

Benefits of CCTV Cameras:

• Deterrence: Visible cameras discourage criminal behavior.
• Evidence: High-resolution footage assists law enforcement in identifying and apprehending perpetrators.
• Community Confidence: Monitoring fosters a sense of security among residents and businesses.

Proposed Solutions: 

We urge the City of Casey Council:

• In collaboration with Victoria Police prioritise the installation of CCTV cameras at key locations, including transport hubs in Hallam, Eumemmerring and Doveton. 
• Offering support for parents to guide their children.
• Creating multilingual leaflets that educate families about the legal and social impacts of crime.
