The steady drumbeat of Logansport residents who think it's time for a change is growing.

This week, our petition driving demanding that Mayor Chris Martin resign surpassed the 28 dozen signature mark. In came in a week when Logansport residents by the dozens weighed in on city spending. While many did not oppose state development money being used for the Farmers Market, there was concern about the city council's use of $500,000 for the project from economic development funds. Martin expressed no opinion on the expenditure at Monday night's city council meeting, nor did he give an update on what he will do if the city's insurance company refused to pay more than $46,000 to the Super 8 Motel for housing the Iron Horses basketball team for several months. Martin previously allocated $50,000 of his discretionary funding for the team, which is not owned or operated by the city. Now the city apparently will absorb the cost of his misstep, unless the insurance carrier refuses to cover it through its general or umbrella liability coverage. Many say Martin should repay the money himself since the expense was not approved by the city council and does not come from his discretionary funding.

Episodes like this and the failure to land even one new industry in the Cass/Logan Industrial Park after nearly six years in office has led so many verified Logansport residents to sign this petition. We invite you, and implore you, to appeal to the better judgment of conventional wisdom. Logansport needs a fully-trained, certified city manager who can manage our community like a business, and approach the job like it's something more than a hobby when it comes to commitment. Please sign and share our petition and thank you for caring for our community's future.
