Today's edition of the Logansport Pharos-Tribune carries a front-page account of last night's special city council meeting.
It confirms that Mayor Chris Martin, who did not attend the meeting, had a hand-shake agreement with the owner of the Super 8 Motel. An attorney representing the motel, T.J. Rethlake, reportedly told the council that claims for lodging for the Iron Horse minor league basketball team had been presented to the city without payment. Deputy Mayor Pomasl said the matter involves the league and not the city, though it is apparent that Martin, not the league, had an agreement with the motel's owner. The report also indicates the city council has advised the mayor that it will not appropriate any additional funds for the team, which is owned by the league, not the city.
As is often the case, Martin was unavailable for comment.
