Petition for Reform in AYUSH Healthcare in Odisha
The Issue
**Petition for Reform in Ayush Healthcare in Odisha**
We, the concerned citizens and supporters of AYUSH (AYURVEDA,YOGA & NATUROPATHY,UNANI,SIDDHA, HOMOEOPATHY) healthcare in Odisha, hereby submit this petition to draw attention to the critical challenges facing the AYUSH system in our state. We believe that Ayurveda and Homoeopathy have the potential to contribute significantly to our healthcare system, and it's time for meaningful reforms.
**Background:**
For over two decades, the Department of Health and Welfare in Odisha has seen no new posts created for AYUSH healthcare professionals, despite the annual graduation of 600-700 Ayurveda and Homoeopathy students from government institutions. Currently, around 900-1000 Govt. Homoeopathic Medical Officers and Govt. Ayurvedic Medical Officers are serving a population of 4.5 crores, resulting in an alarming ratio of 1 doctor per 45,000-49,000 people which is impossible to reach the AYUSH health care to people of Odisha. There is also a glaring lack of a special budget provision for AYUSH healthcare In Odisha.
**Demands:**
We, the undersigned, call upon the government of Odisha to address these pressing issues urgently:
1. Immediately create 500 Homoeopathic Medical Officer (HMO) and 500 Ayurvedic Medical Officer (AMO) posts to address the healthcare needs of our population.
2. Annually create 100 AMO and HMO posts for both Ayurveda and Homoeopathy until the criteria of the National Ayush Mission (NAM) are fulfilled.
Additional Demands:-
3. Increase the number of Post Graduate seats and setup P.Hd Program's to enhance the quality of education and research in AYUSH fields.
4. Ensure Equal Job Payscale in-service Doctors & Stipends of AYUSH House Staff Doctors, matching the compensation provided to allopathic doctors in the state.
**The Way Forward:**
We believe that Ayurveda and Homoeopathy are not only deeply rooted in our culture but also hold great potential as recognized by the World Health Organization. To improve healthcare outcomes and offer holistic care, it's crucial for AYUSH and Allopathic systems to work together.
We urge the government of Odisha to acknowledge these demands and work towards developing a robust AYUSH healthcare system that can complement allopathic medicine effectively. Together, we can create a healthier and more prosperous Odisha.
**Join Us:**
We humbly request all concerned citizens, healthcare professionals, and supporters of AYUSH to join us in this petition to bring about the much-needed change. Let us unite to ensure that Ayush receives the attention and resources it deserves for the betterment of our state's healthcare system.
