The whole prison system is modeled after plantations, not just in Louisiana. The state has become the master and manages the estates of the people. It's the biggest human trafficking scheme in the world.

Once a person enters the criminal "justice" system they become property, just like the slaves were. The officers on the concrete plantation are given the same authority as the "overseers" were given and many are even more abusive.
