We, the undersigned, respectfully ask the Town to review the parking plan for Jain Samaj of USA, a nonprofit religious organization located at 530–540 52nd Street, West New York, New Jersey.

In September 2022, the Town approved a plan for 88 parking spaces and an expansion of the temple, under permit number ZB-2012-08. We respectfully ask the Town to review that approval and the plan’s current status, and to take the steps available under applicable requirements to allow the project to move forward.

The organization’s proposed parking lot would help community members safely access the temple for worship, religious rituals, and other faith activities. Members and visitors come from not only West New York,  surrounding communities , across state and  outside New Jersey. Without parking on or near the property, many have difficulty attending, especially older adults and people with limited mobility.

The public parking lot across the street is not a dependable solution for the temple community. It may have limited availability, particularly when members need to attend services or religious events. When families bring older relatives to the temple, they may need to stop on the street to drop them off, which can create difficulty for visitors and inconvenience for other residents.

We understand that the Town must consider applicable planning, safety, and land-use requirements. We respectfully ask the Town to review the status of the previously approved parking plan and take the steps available under the applicable rules to allow the parking lot to move forward. If revisions are needed, we ask the Town to work with Jain Samaj of USA to identify a reasonable path toward a safe and workable solution.

This request is about access, safety, and the ability of community members to practice their faith. We ask the Town to consider the many people who rely on this temple and the support shown by the signatures below.
