Petition for Optional Base Size Adjustment for Fulgrim in Warhammer 40,000 (11th Edition)

Das Problem

Dear GW and whom it may concern,

We, the undersigned members of the Warhammer 40,000 community, respectfully submit this request regarding the base size of Fulgrim in the upcoming 11th Edition ruleset or next dataslate update for 10th Edition.

Current Issue
Fulgrim is currently mounted on a 130mm base. While this enhances the model’s visual presence, it introduces notable gameplay challenges. The large footprint makes it significantly harder to:

  • Complete charges in crowded engagements
  • Navigate standard terrain layouts
  • Position effectively around objectives
  • Avoid unnecessary exposure to enemy units
  • Additionally, the core rule preventing models from ending movement on top of enemy models disproportionately penalizes Fulgrim due to his base size.

Inconsistency with Other Primarchs
All other Primarch models are mounted on 100mm bases. This creates an inconsistency that places Fulgrim at a mechanical disadvantage in otherwise comparable roles.

Proposed Solution: Optional Base Size Rule
Rather than mandating a full redesign, we propose a flexible and player-friendly solution for Warhammer 40,000 11th Edition:

Allow players to field Fulgrim on either his original 130mm base (for hobby, display, and narrative play), or on a 100mm base (for matched and competitive play).

Benefits of This Approach

  • Preserves the impressive design and artistic intent of the original model
  • Restores gameplay functionality and fairness
  • Aligns Fulgrim with other Primarchs in competitive environments
  • Provides flexibility without invalidating the existing model

This optional rule offers a simple, elegant compromise between aesthetics and gameplay. It empowers players while maintaining balance and consistency across the game.

We believe this change would significantly improve the play experience without requiring major rules overhauls, and we hope it will be considered for inclusion in the 11th Edition rules.

Sincerely,
Concerned players and members of the Warhammer 40,000 community
