Petition for new Flock ALPR city council meeting in North Branch
The Issue
North Branch Neighbors,
Mayor Kevin Schieber and the remaining city council members refuse to open a new city council meeting for the specific topic of ALPR Flock camera use in North Branch unless "more residents" come forward in support of a new meeting. He will not specify how many supporters are needed, just that "the FULL council needs to make this decision."
Multiple community members have attempted to contact the mayor and/or the remaining city council members via social media or email regarding this issue and have gotten zero response other than instruction by the mayor to come to a general city council meeting with their concerns. They will not answer a single question outside of that room.
While residents can always attend the general meetings and speak during the public comment section, this is clearly not effective in small numbers. Watching the June 10th meeting footage showed that one city council member was not even listening when a community member spoke on the topic- he was playing with his laptop and phone. A new meeting needs to be held so that our questions will be appropriately answered.
If you are concerned regarding the use of these cameras to monitor your travels, the use of the national database Flock Safety/upstream data sharing, or the inevitable taxpayer cost to replace vandalized cameras, please sign below. If you would like the city to continue plans to use ALPR cameras but wish for them to consider a safer host company, please sign below.
Thank you for your time!
