We, the concerned residents of Thornleigh, Longford and surrounding communities in Towson, Maryland, demand justice for the horrific and senseless acts of violence perpetrated against our children. Our community has long been cherished as a safe haven where children freely play outdoors and adults enjoy the tranquility of our neighborhood. However, the recent incident has shattered our sense of security and left us reeling with shock and fear.

On Friday, March 29th, 2024, at approximately 4:45 pm, a group of five innocent children, aged 8 to 11, were subjected to a harrowing ordeal at the intersection of Jeffers Rd and Thornton Rd. They were returning to the neighborhood after a joyful afternoon of playing soccer at their local elementary school, located less than half a mile away. It was during this short journey home that they were ambushed, assaulted, and robbed at gunpoint.

This despicable act of violence not only traumatized the young victims but has also cast a dark shadow over our tight-knit community. Our children should never have to fear for their safety while simply enjoying the simple pleasures of childhood. The brazenness of this attack has shaken our community.

We refuse to stand idly by. We demand swift and decisive action from law enforcement authorities and the judicial system to ensure that the perpetrators that have been apprehended are brought to justice. Every effort must be made to investigate this crime thoroughly, prosecute those responsible to the fullest extent of the law, and send a clear message that violence against our children will not be tolerated.

Furthermore, we call upon our elected officials, law enforcement agencies, and community leaders to work collaboratively with us to implement proactive measures aimed at enhancing the safety and security of our neighborhood. We must come together as a community to reclaim our streets and restore peace and tranquility to our neighborhood.

In solidarity with the victims and their families, we hereby petition:

1.  For the immediate and thorough investigation of this heinous crime, with a commitment to apprehending and prosecuting all individuals involved.
2.  For the allocation of additional resources and support from law enforcement agencies to enhance patrols and surveillance in our community, ensuring the safety of our residents, especially our children.
3.  For the implementation of community-led initiatives and programs aimed at fostering a culture of safety, vigilance, and solidarity among residents.

We refuse to let fear dictate our lives and threaten the essence of our community. Together, we stand united in our pursuit of justice and the preservation of our neighborhood as a safe haven for all.
