The Issue

We, the undersigned, are calling for the maximum legal penalty to be enforced in a deeply disturbing case of animal cruelty that has shaken our community of Dunnellon in Marion County, Florida.

On a private property, a horse was discovered deceased after enduring prolonged neglect. Evidence observed at the scene showed the animal was severely emaciated—reduced to skin and bones—indicating long-term starvation and lack of proper care.

Upon investigation, authorities confirmed that the owner admitted to not feeding the horse for an extended period of time and failing to provide necessary veterinary care for years. The owner also acknowledged choosing not to humanely euthanize the animal due to concerns about cost.

What makes this case even more troubling is that the individual had the financial means to care for the animal but chose to prioritize personal purchases instead. This demonstrates a clear and conscious disregard for the life and well-being of a defenseless animal.

Additionally, the individual admitted to a prior incident involving the starvation of another animal, raising serious concerns about a pattern of behavior and the ongoing safety of other animals currently in their care.

This was not an accident. This was prolonged suffering that could have been prevented.

We are deeply concerned that a plea deal or reduced sentencing could fail to reflect the severity of this cruelty. Animal abuse of this magnitude is not only a moral failure—it is a serious crime that demands accountability.

We respectfully demand:

The maximum sentence allowed under the law for aggravated animal cruelty

A full investigation into all animals currently or previously under this individual’s care

A permanent ban on owning or caring for animals

Recognition of this case as a serious offense that warrants strong legal consequences

Animals are voiceless and depend entirely on humans for their care and protection. When that trust is broken so severely, justice must be pursued to the fullest extent.

We stand together to ensure that this case is not minimized and that meaningful consequences are enforced—not only for this animal, but to prevent future suffering.

Justice must be served.
