PETITION FOR INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION AND TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF SECURITY-RELATED OFFICIALS FACING PUBLIC ALLEGATIONS AMID WORSENING INSECURITY IN NORTHERN NIGERIA
Your Excellency,
We write as citizens and advocates deeply concerned by the geometric rise in insecurity across Northern Nigeria, where numerous local government areas are under persistent attacks from terrorists, bandits, and kidnapping syndicates.
This unprecedented deterioration has shaken public confidence in Nigeria’s security leadership.
We note that several government officials occupying highly sensitive security-related positions have been subjects of public allegations, controversies, and credibility questions frequently raised by citizens, community leaders, and in national discussions. These include:
1. Senator Shehu Buba — Chairman, Senate Committee on Security Matters
2. Mallam Nuhu Ribadu — National Security Adviser
3. Bello Matawalle Maradun — Minister of State for Defence
We emphasize that these are public allegations, not established facts. However, because these offices are foundational to national security, such controversies create:
• Conflicts of interest
• Erosion of public trust
• Doubts about neutrality
• Difficulty in coordinating national security responses
In the interest of national peace and public confidence, we respectfully demand:
1. A full, independent investigation into all public allegations involving the above-named officials.
2. That the concerned officials should be temporarily suspended or voluntarily step aside pending the conclusion of this investigation.
3. Immediate review and restructuring of Nigeria’s security architecture to address the skyrocketing insecurity in the North.
4. Transparent communication with citizens on efforts to combat terrorism and restore safety.
We make these demands not as an attack on any individual, but as a constitutional call for accountability, integrity, and leadership capable of restoring public trust during a national emergency.
Nigeria cannot win the battle against terrorism without credible and controversy-free leadership at the highest levels of the security sector.
Respectfully,
Comrade Bello Umar Mohammed
