The Issue

We, the residents of Waterset, are urgently calling for immediate street safety improvements throughout our community. Tragic and preventable accidents are happening with alarming frequency. Nearly every day, residents witness crashes, speeding, or pedestrians being hit or narrowly escaping injury.

The day after Christmas, a young girl lost her life at the intersection of Covington Drive and 30th Street. This heartbreaking tragedy is not an isolated incident, but part of a growing pattern caused by excessive speeding and reckless driving.

Waterset has become a shortcut between Highway 41, U.S. 301, and 19th Street, drawing non-resident drivers who treat our neighborhood roads like highways. Our streets were not designed for this level of traffic or speed, and residents—especially children—are paying the price.

We are calling for immediate action, including:

• A roundabout at Covington Drive and 30th Street

• Emergency vehicle-friendly speed bumps or speed tables

• Light-up speed feedback signs

• Increased speed enforcement and patrol presence

• A full traffic safety assessment of Waterset roads

These are proven, reasonable safety measures that can save lives. Our community deserves proactive solutions, not action taken only after tragedy.

We urge local officials, the HOA, and all responsible parties to act now. No more lives should be lost due to preventable dangers.

Safer streets for Waterset—now.
